Most learners are already able to speak the language before they  even start to read and the reason behind this is that speakers of any language was emersed to their language even before they go to school.

They learned by listening early in their life as babies and was able to absorb words even before they could learn to walk.

Like babies we need to absorb the language in the early stages of learning any language. Because of this information we need to begin learning the Filipino language like a new born, with open ears to every word that we hear from native speakers.

We also need to do it slowly at first and not try to consume enormous amounts of information in the very beginning.  But of course if you are a fast learner by all means immerse yourself in complicated lessons all you want.

For the rest of us we need to take it slowly in the start and progress gradually as we become more acquainted with the language.

So the first thing we need to learn is to listen to the words carefully, and again do it one at a time, just a few words each day, or better yet just a short phrase that you can use in a practical way.

For example: You may want to say "I would like to learn Tagalog" in Filipino. It is said like this "Gusto kong matuto ng Tagalog"
